USS Cole DDG 67 - Guided Missile Destroyer - US Navy

Northrop Grumman Ship Systems (NGSS) Pascagoula, MS. (Apr. 18, 2002) -- Mess Specialist 2nd Class Eric Oliver makes final menu preparations on the ship’s mess decks. At his feet are white stars in an area renamed as the “Hall of Heroes.” Each star represents a fallen Sailor and shipmate aboard Cole, killed in the October 12, 2000, terrorist attack in the port city of Aden, Yemen. Many of those killed were on the ship’s mess decks during the time of the attack. The Cole has been in Pascagoula for the past 14 months undergoing repairs and is scheduled to begin a return to her homeport of Norfolk, Virginia, on April 19, 2002.
