I have a need to engage in self harm everytime I read one of the scoops from various journos.

FMD some twat referred to Remus as a submarine. For crying out loud, how hard is it to do some basic research before going to print
I did not take too much notice of what they were saying more a having a look inside the aircraft as I never seen inside one. Think il have to pay more attention to what they are saying after you seen what you want to see.

Why Adelaide?

RAAF Maritime aircraft consolidated to Edinburgh air force base near Adelaide, SA when 11 Sqn moved into P-3B's [replaced by P-3C's] from P-2E's then based at Richmond near Sydney. The other MR sqn, No 10, was based in Townsville. When it re-equipped with P-3C's from SP-2H's it too moved to Edinburgh. The rationale was to consolidate maintanance, training etc near a big city that was roughly equidistance to both coasts [east/west] and the top end. P-3's are regularly deployed to Butterworth, the ME [10 years] as well as other bases on an as required basis. P-8 and Triton will do the same....

The base had a number of large underused hangars as well.

ARDU operate from there and Woomera is just up the road too...

Never thought I will see the day where a PLAAF IL-76 would land in Australia. Here are two, at RAAF Base Pearce , Perth, being used as a staging base for the MH370 search.

I understand that at least one of them accidentally first landed at Perth Intl before making it's way to RAAF Base Pearce. There'll be a few 'firsts' for a few people happening with such international cooperation.

hey guys, does anyone know why the A330s aren't being used to tank in the search for MH370?

I would of thought with the distances involved tanking would make alot of sense,
Potentially tripling or quadrupling the time the planes could stay in the search area.

P3 can’t refuel in midair and not sure if our MRTT are clear for AAR of P8 yet as the boom has not been properly sorted.

Interesting article today, all credibility for Ian McPhedran going...going...gone. He gets wined & dined by SAAB and he's now their front running salesman.

Glad not all the comments on there are flaming the F-35.

mcphedran has been on the nose ever since he released names early ......

he's ticked off a few senior sirs who even felt the need to correct him in the public domain..

whatever value he had before has been replaced by "MSU syndrome"

Dear god he didn't even google the Gipen to get the basic info right. The story reads like it was written off notes taken during a liquid lunch.

Bloody hell! That's crap!

I'm very fond of the Gripen, but I find that ridiculous. He thinks it's a two-seater! And the bit about 40% extra fuel - than what? He doesn't even seem to know that's the difference between E & the earlier models.

Very much a post-(liquid)-lunch article.

The man is a clown, an embarrassing clown. Basically if you give him access and facts he doesn't listen, misunderstands and screws the story up, if you deny him access he will invent stuff and do a hatchet job. Pinnacle of the Murdoch press.

PM About is expected to announce a further buy in of the F35A today according to this news article, 58 for 12.4billion AUD which is to include weapons spares and upgraded maintenance facility.

Australia to spend $12.4b on fighter jets

good to finally see it get over the line, just hope it lives up to expectations..

They've confirmed an extra 58 yesterday
And 'former RAAF engineer' Goon was shown on ABC this morning bagging it out. Loved the comment of limited weapons carriage and fuel range ...... ignoring the fact this all carried inside the aircraft not slung on the wings.

Out of curiosity what is the impact on the performance of an Su30 with all tanks and weapons slung on the wings.........
