Didn't they already sign the contract in 2006? Have deliveries been delayed by legal problems or just production rates? It is a bit strange why the US Justice Department is getting involved in all this. The Saudi response to any US interference will be simple - no more US orders and a further decline to a once-strong diplomatic realtionship that is now teetering on serious trouble.
So, as the US jeopardises future orders and BAE gets potentially paralysed by further investigations, it should come as no surprise the French are bitting their tongues and waiting to make their move.
And doesn't the EF2000 sale make the RSAF the most advanced air force present in the Middle East (US and Israel included), at least until the Turks get the F-35?
And how dose RSAF rank with Israel's Air Force now, taking in consideration the 72 EF2000's, the 150 something F-15's (including 48 F-15E's), 160 upgraded Tornados, and 5 AWACS E-3C Sentry's.
I think it wins by a landslide in terms of equipment and their training is pretty damn good.
(Note in the Gulf War one Saudi F-15 shot down two Iraqi MiG's in less than 20 seconds.)
