Hi guys! Sam Fisher here... yup, got the username from the splinter Cell fame. Im new to this forum and I would like to humbly ask you guys specially those who own an M16 A2 assault rifle, what accessories can i get to improve my rifle and give it a tactical edge. Please kindly make suggestions as to what scope(e.g. ACOG, etc), suppressors, etc.. can i purchase?

I know prices vary and it all depends on my needs. I only use my M16 A2 for home defense as well as when i go to the firing range. If you can give me insights as to how to make my rifle more efficient and accurate both in close quarters combat and long distance sniping, I would highly appreciate it. Thank you so much sirs.

what problems do commonly occur among M16 A2 rifles and how does one remedy such problems? any ideas, suggestions?. thanks

Sam im quite confused to why you have an M16 for your "home defence", where the hell do you live for you to need this kind of a rifle :p

The 2 problems iv heard about this rifle is that gas tube tends to become clogged, and magazines are unreliable

M-16 family didn't have manual gas regulator like HK rifle or FN rifle. that's what contribute mostly to the clogged (though quite rare). i don't think there's anything wrong with the magazine though. if u think the M-16 magazine is troublesome, wait till u meet HK 5.56 assault rifle, at least the early version.

I've fired a gazillion rounds through M16's and I've never never ever had trouble of any sort with the magazine. The gas tube can clog, but that's the fault of the user, not the weapon. I believe in the KISS principle, and would probably not accessorize an M16 with much more than a decent silent sling. It's pretty easy to knock down 300 meter targets with iron sights so I would't bother with a scope, but that's just me.

True, though the latest M4 makes me drool. The M16A2/3 is not as problematic as when it was first issued eg faulty gunpowder, improper maintenance etc. If there is one accessory I would like is to a have a reflex sight or a laser aim-dot. Other than that, I agree with Gremlim29 - keep it clean and functional.

I have heard that in the US, they have private militias, survival schools etc of that sort. He could be a member of one of them?

Gun ownership in the states is very common. There are numurous gun clubs, hunt clubs etc. There are also the "militia" types who are on average IMHO just a bunch of fat guys that didn't have the cajone's to serve in the military,..but always wanted to. These are the types that think wearing BDU's and eating MRE's somehow simulates the soldiering experience.

I'm not much of a fan of the aim-point systems on long guns but that's a personal preference. A reflex sight would be nice if you had something like an M4 with rails but I would hesitate to put on on a basic M16 reciever. The basic iron sights work nicely and as I previously said, work well all the way out to 300 metre targets. Since the max effective range is only 356 metres my personal opinion is that the scope isn't all that necessary.

As a final thought on extra's, the stock bipod would be a handy little item to grab. They are dirt cheap and virtually indestructible.

if it's for home defence, then you really don't need an aimpoint, or ACOG, a better bet would be a reflex sight,to give you a good field of view, my money would be on a Meprolight Mepro 21 reflex sigh :)
