Western fighters against each other

Moin, moin,

I'm sorry to ask such question early and if it's really against the posting ethics here but here's the scenario I want to ask:

-Dispute between country which has an older plane like F-16 or F-5 against a country which has newer plane such as F/A-18. Both as we know are western made. People usually discuss the possibility of east vs west but like I stated before what happen if the both western plane fight each other?

Does F-16 really dead if she have to fight with F/A-18?

Example one:
Four country AX F-16 fly a mission to escort AX Tu-22 Blinder for an airbase strike. Four country CA F/A-18 scrambles to counter the F-16. The F-16 brings radar jammer. Country AX F-16s fires their AIM-120 first BVR. The Hornets follow suit. Now what will happen next?

I again apologize if this question is really forbidden. I just want to complete my research activities. :)

Thank You

What variant of F-16 and F/A-18? Both aircraft are of the same generation and one isn't necessarily "better" than the other.

If you look at the latest F-16IN/E/F against the latest F/A-18E/F Super Hornet, the F-16 is not at a disadvantage at all. Both can have AESA radars, new cockpits, new jammers, HMS/HOBS missiles, etc.. Both can carry the same varieties of weapons. The F-16 is a better transsonic performer. The Super Hornet's performance isn't anything to write home about but it is capable at low speeds.

It will likely come down to pilot skill, tactics, availability of off-board force multipliers like AWACS, and, of course, luck.
