Possibly an attempt to manufacture a Paratroop rifle for the Swiss Army. It is chambered in the 7.5mm Kurzpatrone round and fed from the side like an FG42

Why assume a paratroop rifle? If you're in mountainous terrain and have to be able to fire down onto your enemy from prone position, it's mighty handy to not have a large banana-type magazine below your rifle! Would work for any mountain-infantry.
