Many Americans really believe that.

They've never even heard that more the 20,000,000 (20M) Russians + Ukranians + Belorussians were killed during that war (not by Stalin. Those were another 20M).

They've never heard about "Kursk Battle Field" or "Stalingrad Battle".

How about you?

For the Moderator.
This is a fair question, wouldn't you say, Sir:D?

Err Ghost...

Technically, the Allied Powers won WWII (vs the Axis Powers), of which the then Soviet Union was a part of. So, the USA, France, Great Britain, Soviet Union and so on (I know there are more allied powers, just too long to list without consulting references).

So both Americans and Russians (for that matter all members of the Allied Powers) are correct to say that they won WWII.

You specifically pointed out the high price the Russians + Ukranians + Belorussians paid. Yes, many died and may they rest in peace (and I mean that with the up most respect).

If you take that approach, what about the others (who were not part of the Allied or Axis powers) who suffered too? The truth is everybody suffered during WWII, particularly the civilians of both the Allied and Axis powers. It was human suffering of monumental scale. Let us hope it will never be repeated.

Yes, there are some people in America who have never heard about "Kursk Battle Field" or "Stalingrad Battle". In fact, I too have had so many encounters which Americans whose knowledge of geography is poor. On the other hand, I have also met very smart and well informed Americans.

What is your point?

There are ill informed people in every country in the world.

In the specific Russian context I can see what he's trying to say, however this thread is definetly flamebaiting. I strongly suggest renaming it, and steering it down a course of valid historical dicussion, instead of implying an insult at an entire country.

Totally agree.

Ghost,

This particular thread is getting closed.

It's delivery and introduction was offensive.

Oversimplification of such a complex issue as each nations contribution and impact on WW2 needs to be done with a bit more finesse.

Take this as a warning about whats expected of posting style - and I suggest that you read the Forum Rules before stepping back into the breech.
