US Navy in WWI

Dear All,

It is very difficult to find any serious information pertaining to the role of US Navy in WWI. Although a late entrant, the situation was bizarre. US was allied with Britain, Britain was allied with Japan, but Japan was not allied with US. As a matter of fact (I believe), Japan and US were un-easy companions as also the Zimmerman telegram shows.

Furthermore, the Pacific Fleet could not have been too far behind the British fleet (overall). Comments?

You can find a compressed version of US involvement in WW1 in Naval Warfare Vol 3, Spencer Tucker.

The Japanese did provide escorts for US merchant ships IIRC.
