i know this is old news,

However are our women safe in Liberia.

some time back dad laughed his A#$ off, and mom said bravo, however keeping the whole gender question out, well trained women who have been observed under fire are pretty good, and hey if nothing then at least there is no chance they wont get you in trouble with raping the men of the place they are sent to represent a nation as UN peace keepers.

I hope you can refer to a group of persons somewhat more accurately than this.

It won't be tolerated again.

There are also several German female police officers in the same peacekeeping force.

Reportedly works quite well. According to a TV report i saw about em a while ago, women in this role get extra respect in Liberia - as, since the Civil War, men are seen as "suspect" (of corruption, abuse etc). The TV report hypothesized that Liberia elected a female President for the same reason (Ellen Johnson-Sirleaf). Putting women into authority positions gives the country a clear "cut" from previous civil war structures.

nero: ... no. it's not about "race". it's about gender, for real, here.

A question still stands is the peace keeping force safe, any thing related in this TV report you saw.

Didn't see anything regarding dangers (ie. attacks etc). Considering the reporters accompanied singular officers without visible backup or heavier weapons on visits around the neighborhood, doesn't seem so in fact. The officers mostly deal with the usual dangers of a professional police force, since that's what they're there for (in addition to recruiting, assisting and instructing local police forces).

It sounds as if Liberia would be an intersting study in the collapse of a country.

Any nation where all men are distrusted simply by virture of being male is clearly in the final stages of social dissintegration. I wonder what comes next- matriarcy or division amongst more solvent nations?

Well, Liberia is now at a point were gender equality, especially in politics, is higher than in most other nations in the world (excluding maybe Scandinavia). Along with the President, five Ministers in the current government are female, as are five out of fifteen county "governors". Liberia is also currently a "focus country" for the World Bank's Gender Action Plan intending for gender equality in economics.
There are several feminist networks active throughout Africa with general missions of conflict resolution and gender mainstreaming. Liberia has been a great success for them. Such Networks (like WIPNET and MARWOPNET) were instrumental in bringing about the current peace.

CNN International also had a (45-min?) report on this particular subject, running late last Sunday (which i missed).
Anyone know whether they intend to rerun that as usual with other stuff in their programming?

Remember the all women Russian tank crews of WWII? Even WWI women were on the 'front lines' in a support role in Britain.

It has been shown by history capability. One distinct advantage of this policy is effectively increasing the rank number pool from which to pull from in any conflict.

During a war yes that is an obvious advantage, however i think during peace keeping operations women serving in armed forces can serve a greater role, peacekeeping forces of the UN have been previously accused of serious crimes, which can ateast be reduced by this.

Indian women peacekeepers praised

New York, Sept. 28 (PTI): An all-woman peace-keeping force from India deployed in Liberia has come in for huge praise at a meeting of an international panel of women leaders headed by US Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice here today.
The peace-keeping force has been on the job in the African nation for the last one year, winning appreciation of locals and even inspiring the women there to join the security forces, the meeting, in which Women and Child Development Minister Renuka Chowdhury represented India, was told.
"The local people are all praise for the all-woman peace-keeping force, that especially guards against violence on women and children," Chowdhury told PTI after the meeting.
She said around 200 women in the African country have enrolled in the security forces taking inspiration from the Indian women.
The Third Meeting of Women Leaders' Working Group convened by Rice discussed women's issues such as education, political and economic empowerment and access to justice.

Seems like they are doing all right, i hope this goes to further the cause of indian women in armed forces.
