Unconventional Armoured Vehicles

I remembered a picture from an old magazine, showing the concept of a new tank destroyer that was planned for the german army in the end of the 80ies but never was build because it was considered obsolete after the end of the cold war.

This is the PANTHER:

The idea was to have a tank destroyer that acts a bit like a helicopter. It's extendable turret would have streched above the cover of a forest or a house or a hill ans shoot laser guided anti tank rockets without ever leaving the cover.
I think that still is a simple but good idea.

Do you know similary unconventional designs that maybe never reached production?

edit: Damn! Why does image shack reduce the picture size without asking first?
Does anybody know a better way to share pictures?

I think that might work better:

very interisting.

well i dont know about any proper anti armour systems like this but there was an incident where the iraqis used a basket crane to fire rpg's at a US convoy as it passed behind an adjacent building.

I remember seeing a picture of what looked like an armoured basket crane. The operator went up in the basket crane to operate the missile. It was a concept by the German Army as well. The caption said something about fighting in forested areas. You are right. It is a good idea.

About the idea IMHO it's perfect solution for light armored vehicles like 8x8 APC. Rockets should be some kind of KE, not CE. For the becoming perfect weapon, it should have possibility to fire on-move while low position of the turrent.
