Malvinas row is likely to reach new heights as news about deployment of HMS Talent to the South Atlantic prompts severe condemnation from Argentina.
According to The Sun, UK Navy has sent the “fearsome” and “deadly” nuclear submarine to the disputed territories “to warn off the sabre-rattling Argies”, ready to protect “British interests”.
The Trafalgar-class “hunter kill” vessel, armed with Tomahawk missiles, is expected to arrive on June 14th which marks the 30th anniversary of the end of the war Argentina and the UK fought over the Islands. That same day UN Special Committee on Decolonization will address Malvinas question.
Press TV contacted British embassy in Buenos Aires. “We make no official comments on the location of the submarines”, they said.
Meanwhile, Argentine ambassador to the UK Alicia Castro steps up the pressure demanding sovereignty talks over the resource-rich archipelago.
“The UK dialogued with a fascist dictatorship but rules out negotiations with a democratic government”, Ms. Castro recently stated at the London School of Economics.
In 1982, Argentina´s ruling military junta invaded the Islands, haunted by severe economic problems and denounces of crimes against humanity in the international community.
Thirty years after Malvinas War, President Cristina Fernandez has decreed the declassification of the “Rattenbach Report” which reveals the mistakes committed by the military leadership and reaffirmed the government’s call for peaceful negotiations.
Despite Argentina´s claims against British position over Malvinas Islands, the UK reinforces its military presence in the South Atlantic, intensifying diplomatic friction between both countries.
