Operation Danbi, a military unit working on the restoration and reconstruction of the Leogane region of Haiti, has exceeded 10,000 in the number of the local patients they have treated so far. Considering that it has been only six months since their arrival, 10,000 is definitely not an insignificant number.
Haiti was devastated by the destructive earthquake last January and has received a lot of assistance from all over the world; however, nothing has improved dramatically since then. Instead, all the attention that had appeared in the beginning has been fading away, along with the number of relief organizations present in Haiti and other forms of relief support.
Operation Danbi must be a source of great hope for the people of Haiti in a situation like this. Operation Danbi is currently working on restoring roads and building 300 units of permanent housing in the Leogane region with Good Neighbors, an international relief organization.
Even more significantly, the members of Operation Danbi were working diligently in the middle of the rainy season, despite the dangers of landslides. This made the locals of Haiti open themselves up more and more. Because of their diligence, they are proudly called "The Hope of Leogane".
In fact, the living conditions of Operation Danbi is not all that great.
The 10,000-patient-treated record was set by mere 16 medical professionals, which included four Army doctors and one veterinarian. They accomplished such a laudable achievement in a terrible medical situation: no hospital equipments, one tent and two containers.
We give applause to the soldiers of Operation Danbi as they overcome the tough conditions and continue their mission with much diligence.
