Last year I swam the Hudson, this year I swam the Potomac. The Potomac tasted much better. The Hudson was a offgrey color witha green hue tasted like warm salty puke with out the acid. The Potomac was a light foggy green. Both had some black globuals floating ...however the Hudsons were much bigger and frequent. There were sopme pockets of the Potomac in which smellled poopy.
I would swim the Potomac again, it was surreal with all the aircraft over head while I swam under the Arlington Memorial bridge. The Hudson, no way...that was grosss...don't let anyone tell you different. We have some work to do on that watershed. I actually took an accidental gulp of the Potomac while doing the breast stroke getting my bearings... i DID NOT GET SICK.
As an open water swimmer, I say, lets make it worth defending and clean it up....GO NAVY
