THIS is one section of a long series i am planning for to write about the Arabian heroic battles in this War
In the setup of preparation of the navy ,, it included the upgrading of the training level and increasing morale and focusing the training in the beginning on intercepting and defeating any surprise naval attacks ,, and the units under training and going to the battlefield were chosen ,, and started training with units of the Airforce and ground forces ,, and the experiences of the fifth group of the Soviet Union Navy in the Red sea were benefited by the new units that will make history soon in the battle of seas ,, as there was modifications on the electronic warfare units and the surface-surface missiles units and also there was coordination between the Navy and the The Ministry of Maritime Transport to be acknowledged of the movement of the commercial ships and controlling their positions away of any naval battle to come , and in that case also their was some coordination about the usage of some civilian boats and ships that can be use in logistics and transportation ,, and the Arabian minds of the United Arab republic were used at best to know the best of every naval military piece ..
And about fitting the battlefield ,, there was connection with the governments of the republic of Sudan , the republic of south Yemen and Somalia to insure the best movement of the Egyptian Battleships and submarines for naval battles ,, and also the upgrading of optical and technical reconnaissance systems and the usage of river transportation and ground transportation in the transfer of Surface-surface missiles boats between the red sea and the Mediterranean and we built the new naval base of Mursi Matrooh and the naval base of the Red sea and their was coordination with the Airforce in the incoming battles in reconnaissance and fire support and CAS ..
The naval operations in the War was not only about the navy ,, but the new special ops force Naval thundertroopers (Sa’aqah “Human Frogs”) that used to penetrate Israeli defenses in the peninsula in 1968-1970 and made ambushes to the enemy troops and planted mines in ground and under important enemy sea pieces and between the naval missions of the navy in this period was :
1-defeating the raid on Ras Al-Esh : that happened in 1/7 and 8/7 of the year 1967 as the Israeli forces started marching from East Qantara to Ras Al-Esh to start an attack from Ras Al-Esh to takeover PortFouad city and when the intentions of the enemy known the Frigate PortSaied that was stationed in the port of portsaied and with the naval cannons on the coast it started artillery barrage on the attacking force and stopped their advance ,, the enemy force tried the same scenario in the 8th day but also were pushed back by the frigate and the defenses in the Egyptian coast .
2-Battle of 11/7/1967 : to the east of portfouad ,, the Israeli command made an advantage of the cease fire and started to plan a naval battle near Portsaied ,, the Israeli force would be commanded by the ship (Eilat Battleship) and 2 other torpedo boats go forward and return ,, and they restricted the lines of movement of the boats to position them in the best position to locate and engage any Egyptian unit moving out of PortSaieed as it will be engaged by both sides by the boats ,, so the orders was to start an operation to traffic the movement of ships in the tactical range of the naval base and locate any target to the north east of the base in the range of 16 miles ,, a big target was located by an Egyptian boat squadron but then and by surprise the enemy torpedo boats engaged the squadron from the rear and the enemy battleship changed its course away of the Egyptian squadron boats ,, so the Disproportionate battle between the Egyptian boats squadron and the two torpedo boats and the battleship that started firing flares and using its intense firepower but the Egyptian squadron leader to speed up directly into the battleship but because of its fast movement and maneuvers it moved away of the boats ,, but even with that the boats engaged the battleship to maneuver it to shallow waters or inside the range of the coastal artillery and in Sa’at 2350 ,, the leader and the crew of one of the squadron boats agreed on making a suicidal mission to make an opportunity for the other boats to flee ,, most of the crew were KIA but the attack made a 20 big holes in the right side of the battleship and this battle was recorded as one of the famous heroic battles of the modern era that was between torpedo boats and big naval units and made it know that the arabs have a rare courage .
3-Battle of 21 October 1967 (the Revenge) “Sinking Eilat” : the images of the Arrogance of the Zionists and their revel in OUR regional waters with no punishment nor deterrent was hard on our hearts and we wanted the revenge of the sunk heroic torpedo boat in 11/7 ,, and in the morning of Saturday of 21 October 1967 ,, a big target on radars was seen away 20 Miles of portsaied ,, the degree of readiness in the base was taken to maximum level and when the target was 15 miles away ,, it was identified as an Israeli Battleship and the orders came fast to scramble two squadrons of Torpedo Missiles boats and surface-surface missiles boats and to engage the Israeli battleship ,, in order that the first shots would be by surface-surface missiles ,, and to camouflage the attack the Airforce command sent an open signal ordering the base not to engage the enemy and by 1600 and in the range was 14.5 miles away of the base and moving in the base directing at fast speed the first squadron of the missiles boats took positions to engage in 1725 the first boat engaged the battleship and in moments the Target was in fire and in 1850 another big target was located in radar , attacked and sunk and the battleship made a big explosion , a huge light and loud voice , the ship sunk completely by seven minutes , and when the boats made its way near portsaied city and when the people of the city saw them and already heard the loud voices and saw the big destroying lights ,, the people started hooraying and cheer the men in the boats ,, as the 1967 war is over and a new page started and a new battle is coming where arabs will show Israel that winning 1967 six days war round is not the end .. and arabs will fights …
Israel sent a message to the world and to Egypt especially by General Orpaul the leader of the UN forces in Quds asking Egyptian Navy in the name of humanity to help the battleship and its dying crews and to stop fire on the Israeli naval ships in the scene and help the sinking ship .. Eilat was the best in Israeli Armada with load of 2500 ton and 200 crewmen
This attack made a new concept in the whole Naval War as it successfully engaged and destroyed big units (Battleships) using small units (surface-surface missiles boats) that made a new doctrine in the modern Naval warfare ..
4- reconnaissance by submarines : this was TOP SECRET missions and in that period it was a total of seven operations of submarines making reconnaissance in the water of Israel for 20 Days and picture the Israeli defenses on there coasts and inspect any radar positions ,, the target of this operations was other than reconnaissance to make the submarines crews and leaders think that the water of the enemy was ours and that the enemy have very limited capabilities in locating and engaging submarines ..
My Comment :
As we can see the Egyptians were capable of fighting less than 60 days after the six days war (that the Israeli military commanders bet that the Arab wouldn’t recover of easily ,, and surely not that fast) and the intel that the Egyptians made of the missions that the Israelis were planning .. was magnificent such like in the 11/7 battle (even that Egyptians lost the battle with best outcome) and the navy was not paralyzed as was illustrated by the enemy … I will continue I series of the Egyptian heroic battles in this War that will change the known idea of the Israelis winning this war which is a big mistake ,, and to brief the importance of this war in military aspects not only morality aspects ..
