The difference in the main styles of training

I am conducting research on military advisers at the moment (for instance the Cubans in Angola). I was just wondering what people believe is the key differences between say Russian and US combat advising (are the styles really different?) and what exactly are countries gaining by having Russian US or Chinese (or any others for that matter) advising them? I suppose the question is more poignant for African nations rather than say Europe, as African nations seem to constantly need advisers for everything from training Presidential Guard through to other 'stuff'. But anyway i seem to be getting away from the questions...
