There's just too much argueing (posturing oddly enough ) in that thread to find a direct answer.

So I gather the only advantage is for added stability/range with that difficult shot?

You were right with stating that it makes using small duginholes or some cover easier.

And especially on the mountaineous korean peninsula this technic offers you the ability to change your elevation angle which makes it possible to touch targets above and under you which would not be possible with a classic design.
