Sukhoi 27's for the RAAF?

Is it possible the RAAF would have ordered Sukhoi 27s from Russia?, Not sure if this is true but i read on an article somewhere that in the early 90s about the RAAF tried to order Flankers but were barred due to NATO standards.

I know Australia are not NATO but are however are on thier side.

The russians offered SU 30's to us in 97 IIRC. They put the price at $20 mil with production rights and joint missile development (howz that for a bargain). They were throwing Flankers at us, I guess the lack low price would have been worth achieveing a sale from an western influence buyer. I dont think anyone in the RAAF or DMO took it seriously.

I can't find any evidence that the RAAF ever gave serious (or any) consideration to the acquisition of Su-27s. Apart from the fact that it would have required a completely new logistical and support arrangement and would have been totally out of step with other equipment, it would have been politically unacceptable, IMO.

People are a lot more suspicious of Russia's motives these days so the likelihood of such a purpose is even lower now than it ever was.

With the F18E/F coming, followed by F35, any talk of Sukhois doesn't make sense... Besides, Indonesia has them and despite the improvement in relations between Australia and Indonesia I don't think it possible of operating the same aircrafts (in case one day there were a clash)
