Would anyone happen to know how many ships and personal and what the future size fleet is for the US Merchant Marines?
Both US owned and registered and US owned and foreign registered ships, how many then?Define US Merchant Marine.
Are we talking purely US owned, registered and manned ships? In that case you're looking at a couple of dozen small specialist ships at most.
US owned, but foreign registered ships? US registered and owned ships? US registered but foreign owned ships, Pool ships?
Figuring out who owns what and where a ship hails from is a bit of a trick.
Here's an example.
The container ship John Smith is registered in the US, and owned by two US based companies and a UK based one, two of which is owned by a Mexican conglomerate. The officers are mainly Poles, but comes from a Danish manning company and the Filipino deckhands comes from a South Korean manning company. The cargo is insured owned by 400 different companies, of which 60 is owned by a daughter company of the UK based company, and insured by a Norwegian company.
And this is a fairly straightforward example.
Google US merchant marine. Wiki says 456 ships at and over 1,000 GRT...Both US owned and registered and US owned and foreign registered ships, how many then?
