hello,
i am new to this site but need some expertise.
got that picture from a russian pal.
said the picture was taken in August last year east of Tomsk.
claims it was an uav and travelled at roughly 500-600 kilometer per hour, low altitude.
does someone have a clue what it could be?

Tu-143 derivative. It might be a baseline Tu-143 in service with the VVS or iirc VDV. It might be a Tu-243 in iirc VVS service or a Tu-300 on trials, though Tu-300 development (a strike variant of the Tu-243) only resumed recently and I don't know that it's reached flight testing.

As far as I know most other Russian UAVs are turbo-prop, including the Aist and Dozor-600 (the two most modern ones, currently under development).

Its a close encounter of the blurry kind.

It could easily be a Tu-300. http://www.vectorsite.net/twuav_05_10.jpg the nose is too bulbous for a 243 or a 143.

Your link is dead. You're right that the Tu-143 nose is not that bulbous. Neither is the Tu-243. In their baseline variants. However the UAVs in question have been modernized since the fall of the USSR. I wouldn't be surprised to see a Tu-143 airframe with a new engine, and new imaging equipment in the nose.

EDIT: Here's my prime suspect. Tu-243, or some derivative of (like Tu-300).

Thats the exact same shot I had ! :) I found another nice on here.

tu-300 was not revived. Simply it was said that it COULD BE revived. Now it is developed only like an initiative of tupolev designers.

Skolzkiy it doesn't matter, for the purposes of IDing the photo, who revived the project. The point is that it has been revived. ;) The photo could be flight testing done by UAC (Tupolev).

Did Polyot say what UAV they're using as the testbed?

I was told it was Tomsk and the sound was jet like, not a turboprop.
Maybe the Tu-300 is a possibility.

It's not a turbo-prop. The jet engine is clearly visible. Also it's a Tu-143 derivative, so it's jet powered. Whether it's a Tu-300, or some other Tu-143 upgrade is probably undistinguishable in this particular shot. I suspect we will never find out which this is.
