Hi All i'm very new to the forum but have an abiding interest in all things naval particularly the Russian Navy. My question is does any one on the board know if the Russian FF Steregushchiy has been commissioned ?:)

The corvette's Radar mast looks impressive. What type n capabilities they pocess?

Also the frigate n corvette are ok, what about destroyers. Are they building any new destroyers fror the navy based on new design?

No, even if the Udaloy improved (IIRC it is the Chabanenko) could be a base on which a new class could be built. But no such plans exist, at least officially.

The 20380 corvette most likely has a phased array radar.

I would say the next Russian DDG will be more multirole (ASUW/ASW/AAW) and inline with the DDG-51 class vice the Sovremenny (ASUW) and Udaloy (ASW) mix. I have not seen anything yet.

I believe Russia will concentrate on frigates and corvettes as they need to build their surface fleet to show and maintain a worldwide presence. Russia needs this quickly and inexpensively. Their building programs should develop a new cadre of naval architecs, weapons systems engineers, yard workers, etc. This should lead to advance projects, however may take some time.

Perhaps they are refining and improving their ship designing ability with smaller corvette's n frigates before they move on to bigger projects like a destroyer. A destroyer class should be right from the start if they intend to build it with stealth technology n new detection systems. Cosidering that they are now in a transition phase of their rebuilding, they could probably afford to wait on their destroyer/missile gunboat projects.

Indeed. This also underlines why it is hard to believe declarations about several new aircraft carriers being built in the next few years. Focus is on SSBNs, frigates and corvettes.
