Ok, could use some help here for my Selection Board for the RAN, i have a few
already listed, including todays shameful scandal at HMAS Cerberus. So any help would be appreciated, even more so any links with excercises being conducted in conjunction with foreign navies
Cheers

Provide a summary of the navies activities for the past 18 months including any events the service or ADF has been involved in, good or bad publicity and any new equipment

Mate you should have a lot to choose from, I suggest you go to the DefMin site or RAN news and get all the recent announcments about the new Armidales coming on line. I reckon you could also get some press releases from ASC and Tenix. ADI will also have news on Sydney and Melbourne's refits. Also we've had constant deployments to Gulf, recent exercises in Hawaii, and support efforts in the Solomons. Also no list would be complete without stuff about the Sprite, SeaKings, and the new amphibs.

Operations -

Operation Catalyst - HMAS Warramunga currently deployed to Persian Gulf to help maintain security, particularly of Iraq's oil platforms.

Operation Resolute - a combined operation which consolidates all activities formerly conducted under RELEX II (focussing on unauthorised arrivals), CRANBERRY (illegal fishing and smuggling), CELESTA and MISTRAL (patrols of Australia's southern ocean EEZ) - vessels deployed as necessary but predominantly conducted by Fremantle Class PB's and Armidale CPB's.

Operation Anode - RAN previously provided support to Army and RAMSI through - HMAS Bathurst - Fremantle class patrol boat deployed to suppot RAMSI and Army.

Exercises -

Exercise Bersama Padu - Five Powers Defence agreement exercise around the Malaya Peninsula involving HMAS Stuart (ANZAC Class frigate) HMAS Darwin (FFG), HMAS Gascoyne (Huon class Mine Hunter) and Clearance Diving team One. Exercise was conducted in September 2006.

RAN also deployed to RIMPAC 2006 and numerous other deployments I don't currently have info on.

New equipment introduced in the last 18 months, inlcudes Harpoon Block II missiles and launchers on HMAS Warramunga and ANZAC "Mini-Typhoon" and Rafael "Top lite" sensor systems on various ANZAC and FFG frigates, the new Armidale Class patrol boats, the re-activation of 2x Huon Class Minehunters, delivery of the new "underway replenishment vessel" HMAS Sirius to replace HMAS Westralia and selection of the MRH-90 to replace the remaining Sea King helicopters.

Controversies have included the Sea King disaster and the subsequent board of enquiry, plus the on-going Super Seasprite helicopter issues...

Hope this helps. Thepuss (current FFG sailor) will be able to help a bit if he's got some spare time...

I'd PM him and see how it goes anyway...

Checked ADF Online, so got a bit from there, and cheers AD for the summary, and the support from Mug and steve. my notes are bout same AD, cept a few books long:rolleyes:
I'm a little surprised how quickly this story dissapeared from the main page of News website, lets just say, after the NSW Police college rompus, this is a joke and a half:mad: , but if they offer this at Creswell, i'll take, man or women...LOL

SOME senior male instructors at the navy's top training school, HMAS Cerberus, awarded female recruits top marks in exchange for sex.
In one case, a 20-year-old woman claimed to her classmates she had provided sexual favours before topping the class with high marks across the board.

"It has become a f--- fest for the boys," a whistleblower told the Herald Sun.

Some of the assignations took place at the Beach Motor Inn in Frankston and followed drinking sessions at a bar called the Ha'penny Bridge Irish Bar in the bayside town close to the base.

According to the whistleblower, the instructors preyed on female students at the Recruit School.

In some cases they threatened to slow their entry to the nearby post-recruit training Category School unless they provided favours.

All female students are housed in one block at Cerberus, at Crib Point near Hastings on the Mornington Peninsula.

At a recent graduation ceremony, a female recruit who was suspected of dobbing them in and her family and friends were verbally abused by drunken instructors who are now the subject of an administrative behaviour inquiry.

Three former navy members, who made their thoughts known, were also threatened and abused at the dinner.

There have been eight inquiries into inappropriate conduct at Cerberus and at least four involve sexual misconduct, including one into the marks-for-sex allegation.

Commanding officer of the base, Capt David Garnock, said he was disappointed anyone would stoop to inappropriate behaviour with colleagues.

"It is not widespread by any means and we want to send a strong message that inappropriate behaviour is not tolerated in the navy at all," he said.

Two of the eight cases had been resolved and appropriate disciplinary action taken.

The whistleblower said the navy completely missed the point because the bad behaviour was being perpetrated by experienced senior sailors, not fresh-faced recruits.

"One retired warrant officer who witnessed the abuse said he had never seen service people of that rank behave so badly," the whistleblower said. "The instructors think they are bullet-proof."

One mother, who also witnessed the graduation confrontation, encouraged her daughter to leave the navy immediately.

Concerning Cerberous:
It is not unknown in the Danish Army either.
yeah, the state police of all people just went through this process, and now we have to put up with it again, although they got nothing like the publicity cops did, in fact this story dissapeared from the news website by midday, and i had to track my history to find it, quite odd really

Gday Icelord,
It makes a change for it to disappear so quickly. The trouble is one controversy quickly follows another.

At the moment Newcastle & Kanimbla are on their way to sit off Fiji & see what happens.
Rankin did quite well at Rimpac with Manoora proving its worth as an afloat HQ, the yanks were appartently fairly impressed.
Any other info, will help out if I can
Cheers.
