Question for Combat Pilots: Ontario ASEK

I have been looking at one of these lately. I like some of the improvements made to the original design such as the flat grind that makes the saw function better...but i wonder about the perceived loss of strength. I'm curious to know how those they have been issued to feel about them.

Thanks

O.

Not a great number of combat pilots on the boards, mate. And others may not know what you're talking about - I admit I had to google it before I had any idea. Hope you get some answers though. :)

Thank you sir for that information. That will in turn lead me to another question as i am interested in cutting tools from a pilots perspective.

Lack of familiarity in and of itself answers some questions.

Seems to me that you have got a huge collection of knifes with you.:)

Well sir some times you need to wait for a week or so to get the replies you want.
I thought why not paste an image of the "Ontario ASEK" for people like me who don't know what's this all about.:D
Thank you very much for the help SURB! I was trying to get to the point where I had made enough posts as to be able to attach links.

I don't know that "huge" or even "collection" are exactly the right words :) . I do have several yes, however not as many as I once did. Also after so much time in discussions on knife forums when I think of the word collection now I think of knives in pristine condition in glass cases. Since so much of my time is devoted to studying edge geometries, steel types, thicknesses and hardness-es, blade lengths, and handle ergonomics all of mine are dirty and scratched. I teach knife and wilderness skills so...when I am not beating them up someone else is.

I have both the Ontario and Gerber ASEKs, but as far as I know the Ontario was the only one ever actually issued. For my personal uses, and from my perspective as a non-pilot, neither would be a first choice for me as a "survival" knife. I am curious as to how pilots feel about it.
