I just read on Jane's that Portugal voted in Parliament to acquire the 2 Doorman FFGs the Netherlands are retiring (only 2 left out of the 8 ships built).
Portugal will have operated quite a renovation for its Navy : 3 Meko 200, 2 Doorman, 2 T 209 SSKs building to replace the Daphnes, plus OPVs under construction to replace old FFs.
Opinions on this wide renovation ?

cheers

When will Portugal acquire their NPL logistic ship, or have they already bought one? It seems Portugal is hard pressed for sealift for its rapid reaction forces. The ex-US Newport they have won't last long.

Considering Portugal's economy I think they are doing very well. However, I am begining to wonder about the Dutch economy. They are selling off many frigates with a lot of life left in them.

NPL vessels

No information on that particular vessel, this Law only states that until 2014 this vessel will be built. Where and when, not defined. As for the navy renovation its the branch that under this Lawn will get the lions share of the cake, but it makes sense since we have a vast exclusive economic zone, we have a somewhat strategic location on the atlantic ocean (azores, madeira) and a great naval tradition.

The Netherlands are planning to use the money from the sale to buy 4 corvettes/OPVs and Tomahawks + SM-2 IV for their De Zeven Provincen AAW FFGs.

Well, at least the Dutch are buying something. I wonder if the corvette/OPV design has been finalized? Any information would be welcome. I have been impressed with the Dutch construction of new amphibious and replenishment ships. But I am worried about the frigate fleet, the Karel Doormans after this sale are down to just two.

Apparently the corvettes/OPVs are 90-metre ASUW ships with helo pad&hangar, only self-protection AAW and no ASW. The ships would be used mainly for patrol purposes in the Caribbean Islands.
I'm in a bit of a hurry, I suggest you go check the internet site of RDM shipbuilders. RDM (de Rotterdamsche Droogdok Maatschappij).

I have an image of the proposed new OPV. Apparently it won't even have a military grade surface search radar. Going to be useless in wartime. Is RDM building it? I always thought Schelde would have gotten the contract- in any case, I can't find RDM's website, if that bankrupt firm even has one.

Going to be tough times ahead for Schelde and RDM...

You are right, my mistake ! RDM is bankrupt and is dead at least as far as naval contracts are concerned. Schelde is the shipyard building surface units in the Netherlands. :bum
