Pakistan to get 44 Rafales

(September 1, 2004): Senior officials of Dassault Aviation, Snecma, and Thales said on condition of anonymity, the government of France has given clearance to sell Rafale fighter aircrafts to Pakistan. The senior officials of Dassault Aviation, Snecma, and Thales were very tight lipped about the details of the deal because of the level of sensitivity of the issue to Pakistan. Dassault Aviation has been pressing Pakistan to buy Rafale for almost two years but due to financial and political situations, Pakistan has withheld the final decision. According to the officials of Dassault Aviation, Pakistan is expected to place an initial order for 44 Rafale and take an option on another 54 of them.

Woah! 98 Rafales would be a huge boost for the PAF. Lets hope this deal materializes before the hawks can jump in to ruin the deal. :smokingc:

Over all of 98! why not by 2 more make a 100?
The r expensive jets. 44 means all purchase funds of PAF r being used up. 54 more means all future purchase funds r going to be used up. It will also take some other additional funds. PAF would become a liability to govt. Well who cares. If we get them, thts the best thing tht will happen sice 1998 Nuck Test, as Yasin says.

All ppl from Pak pray for it to be true. Do go to Friday prayers n pray 2 nafils for it. ;)

from my prospective the Forecast international is a reliable source of defense news, they are usually the first to pick up news. i guess they are very invasive in nature when it comes to journalism. In the past they have provided more or less accurate early warnings about pakistan Deals and there estimated cost, that have been later verified by the involved parties

This news is false and was NEVER published by forecast international. I was on telephone with editor of forecast international and he said they never published anything related to PAF buying Rafales. They did however publish a news report back in July about PAF buying x libyan Mirages, which actually materialized.

Closing the thread.

Fieldmarshal, now you know why I moved your first thread about this issue... :!:

the reason y the link is not working is cuz the whole forecast intl web site is down, so when its running again the link will work.

as far as the monatary considerations for the rafales goes , two things here

1. There is no specific timeline given for the purchase, this infact, boosts its credibility because the PAF will never disclose a timeline for induction, especially for Rafale. Unlike the Gripen news which said the timeline and stuff.
2.44 Rafales are like 4bn US Dollars, in Pakistan's case, we're reported to have the funds, and the induction of these 44 planes could be over 10-12 years, which makes sence for something so expensive. In reality, Pakistan would pay 400mn USD a year for the next decades, for the 8 odd planes it does get each year, like always. Even if we get somthing like 12 planes every year than it means we pay somthing in the range of 600 mn USD, for a period of around 8-10 years, which by any standard is not a lot.

You acquire the number of platforms of any military capability, basd on your planned force structure, not on nice round numbers. If they intend to acquire 98 Rafales, it's because 98 is what they require to man their operational squadrons, and equip their training and development units. Any more would be superflous, until they need attrition replacements, or wish to increase the size of their force.

Where is the "news" directory?

When editor is saying they NEVER published such news, why are you hell bent on saying they did? Did you see the news on Forecast international's page? If so, post a screen shot.

webs i know its possible this news is Junk, and i'm sure the Guys at Pakdef.info would be cursing me for saying something like this, GOD Help them!!. but what i'm trying to say is that the Saudis were evaluating these platfroms in 2000, there was a report that read about them trying to upgrade there Air-defense capability, it may be that the recent and continuous high level exchanges between the two, Pak and Saudi's might have discussed a joint deal where the per price unit would drop when both of them buy these in large numbers, they would certainly share common training for there personnel the sauids would be able to contract PAF to fly there rafael assets very easily. it does make sense it may be completely Bulls. But the Saudi's do lack the high-tech fighters(i know they have Tornado and F-15c but they are all old now the tornados were updated), and they have been thinking of buying some new generation fighters.
