and the battle of Okgye. I was able to find almost nothing about these battles except they took place early in the war and they were South Korean victories.

When I first saw the title of this thread I drew a blank. I knew there was some naval action in Korea, and for sure there was a lot of gunnery and carrier support for the troops on land and interdiction of supplies. But naval battles? As in BATTLE? I drew a blank.

So I researched it and discovered there was only one actual battle, and thats if you can call shooting up a bunch of torpedo boats by capitol ships a "battle". Anyway, heres the page http://www.history.navy.mil/wars/korea/navalbattles.htm

Save the link because its a gem of a research web sight. I always tell people we already have a time machine that can predict the future. Its called, "The study of history".

Thanks for the link Rich.

I had exactly the same reaction. The naval action I was aware of involved extensive American and British Commonwealth carrier operations and naval gunnery support against shore targets. Battles between ships and shore batteries did take place and one of these, involving, the Australian frigate Murchison, is described in the following link:

Unfortunately I don't have any other link to add to what Rich has provided re battles at sea.

Cheers

There certainly appears to be nothing much online with more info re these battles than the link supplied by Rich. I guess you have already done so but going back to the NHC home page provides links to further reports. For example:

http://www.history.navy.mil/books/field/index.htm

Looks like there may be a case for an enterprising person to research this and publish a book or at least an online/magazine type article that provides details of these and other South Korean naval exploits. There seems to be a lot available re the history about the Korean navy of old but precious little detail of the post WW2 era.

Cheers
