Bigger guns!
What I try and understand is the problem that a missile ship has when its missiles are exhausted. It needs a gun (or two) to take on the enemy. Furthermore, defence against missles is possible. Should you be in range of a large naval gun aimed accurately there is nothing to save your ship except armour, and there is very little of that on modern ships. There is a great deal more thought and discussion needed by naval planners and designers but I have a feeling bigger guns are coming back. The high-tech defence against missiles is essential now but there is little defence against a heavy shell on a modern vessel.
Just a few thoughts on the matter!
