Military Budgets and Pay

With the highest military budget I'm assuming the U.S. also has the highest military pay.
Where do countries like Great Britain, France, Germany, Japan , Russia and China stand as concerns both? How do weak economies affect the pay part?

Military pay was lower than comparable civilian pay so I'm not sure if it is/was effected by weak economies right now. Also not listed above is china's pay scale as they do not list their pay scales, nco's dont have a retirement option but their officers do (PLA Enlisted Force - NCO)

Hope this helps you in your quest for knowledge.

The military budget is that portion of the United States discretionary federal budget that is allocated to the Department of Defense, or more broadly, the portion of the budget that goes to any defense-related expenditures. This military budget pays the salaries, training, and health care of uniformed and civilian personnel, maintains arms, equipment and facilities, funds operations, and develops and buys new equipment. The budget funds all branches of the U.S. military: Army, Navy, Air Force, and Marine Corps.

For the 2010 fiscal year, the president's base budget of the Department of Defense rose to $533.8 billion. Adding spending on "overseas contingency operations" brings the sum to $663.8 billion.

When the budget was signed into law on October 28, 2009, the final size of the Department of Defense's budget was $680 billion, $16 billion more than President Obama had requested. An additional $37 billion supplemental bill to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan was expected to pass in the spring of 2010, but has been delayed by the House of Representatives after passing the Senate. Defense-related expenditures outside of the Department of Defense constitute between $216 billion and $361 billion in additional spending, bringing the total for defense spending to between $880 billion and $1.03 trillion in fiscal year 2010.

Explains why its fairly inaccurate.
The Canadians have a high pay system, but there benefits vary.
For navy Aus is one of the best earners in comparrison to most, once additional benefits kick in. We receive Service allowance for keeping IR Ready(fit, healthy and ready to deploy) Sea going pay for being posted to a ship. The canadians and brits pay only for being at sea, Aus for being on a ship alongside or at sea you get seagoing.
When the ADF deploy overseas we receive Campaign allowances and tax breaks, taking your normally pay and at times either doubling it while on deployment, or for Army in Afghanistan almost triple. Add to that ADF pay your rent while away and your doing alright...:D
For job comparison, last i checked in my current job and role i make around $25,000Aus more then US sailor and $18,000 more then UK. canada depends on how much thier ship is at sea. I also would like to note im on the lower pay grades of the ADF.
I recall a US Master Chief once asking us, Able seaman our pay while on deployment. The fact we doubled his was slightly depressing to him at the time...
For ADF once you get through in Job qualifications you receive slight pay increases or bonuses, depending on department and section.
ADF perks are pretty good, but US still holds a massive advantage in the way of housing, family NEX/PX stores discounts, and how the US military is held in their psych compared to other countries, including Aus. US support brings their lower pay structure up when they receive more in terms of base accomadation and Tax exemptions. Plus if they paid Campaign allowance like most countries, they would be nearing broke 24/7
European countries have pay bonuses and allowances as well.
