Medical Discharge

I was told by my reserve center that I may be medically discharged due to my injuries I sustained in IRQA.?
I have 12 years in and don't want to flush them down the drain. What can I do and is there any compensation from the navy if I am discharged, after receiving injuries on active duty as well on reserve duty.

When you say you don't want to flush them down the drain, you mean you want to stay in?

Depending on what the injury is and if it effects your ability to get a job the civilian world you are entitled to a degree of vet's compensation. IE loss of an eye is 35%, loss of arm 75%, you might want to talk to your vet rep or JAG depending on what your post is and what rank you are. If you are medically discharged you will probably recieve compensation for injuries sustained while on duty, be sure to start your paperwork right away so you can contact your former medical officers if there are any questions. This should be covered in your SEPS class while waiting for discharge.

As far as staying in 8 more years to retirement, depending on your injuries you might be able to continue serving in a reserve or inactive reserve, but if the injuries are serious (more than say 50% disability) you might not be able to, again contact your medical officer and maybe jag or vet rep to see if you have any form of recource to stay in.

Hope this helps but not sure how much detailed info will be avail from here.
