Marine Detachments

There has always been a detachment of Marines on the larger ships of the U.S. Navy.
I recently found a document on the internet at a web site by the name of American State Papers that gives gives detailed information on the crew complements for the old sailing navy in1821 minus marines. Can someone tell me how many marines were on board the 36 gun frigate U.S.S. Congress in 1821?

Thanks, James

Unfortunately I cannot tell you exactly. However, checking my resources it appears that during the period from ~1812-1815, a 36-gun frigate of the USN would have a Marine detachment consisting of a lieutenant, two sergeants, two corporals, a fifer and drummer, and 40 privates. It is a few years earlier than you had requested, and did not specifically state for the USS Congress, but due to being close in time period and covering a relevant category IMO it should be similar, if not exact.
