Malaysia to honour Aust servicemen and women

The Malaysian Government is to honour Australian servicemen and women who served in the country from 1957 to 1966.

The Federal Government says up to 12,000 Australians could apply to receive the commemorative medal.

Where possible, the medals will be personally presented by senior representatives from the Malaysian Government.

I must say that this comes as a surprise. I doubt this would have happened under Matahir .

Me too. He was happy enough to accept our support and help to defend his Country, but for some reason he obviously hated Australia. Things are a lot better since he left and became nothing...

Mahathir are known to be man who speak his mind freely. many hate him for it, inside and abroad. during the last election he participate, the ruling party Barisan Nasional almost lost it's 2/3 majority in the parliment. Also he lost many supporters from malay voters and if not for non-malay voters, the BN wouldv'e lost to the Islamic fundamentalist party PAS

This is mr. Badawi way of saying "we are sorry for our big mouth earlier, let us be friend again"
We were always friends, Matahir just made it unnecessarily uncomfortable.

Does this mean that the Australian government will now recognise all personel that served throughout the crisis as being on "active duty in a time of war" ?
