I am looking for someone that has a good understanding of east german units and their marking and units medals to help me identify an East German Air Defense Missile unit medal marking.

Can anyone help?

Afaik, these badges weren't unit-specific, but occupation-specific. That should be a qualification badge for a SAM operator, not too sure about the "P" ranking though (or is that a Latin "I", in which case it would be a somewhat-hard-to-get rank 1 badge?).

This specific form was handed out after 1986, afaik.

Here's a rank 2 version for the same occupation qualification badge for comparison:

From 1986 till the end (1990, that is).

There were three different designs for these kind of badges in total during NVA times, the first used until 1963, the second from 1963 to 1986, the third (this type) from 1986 onwards.
