I was wondering if anyone knew the timeframe for this ADF program? Do you think Future systems like FRES or FCS will be selected, or will the CV90 or PUMA be chosen?

The timeframe for Land 400 and most other projects will be released in the new Defence Capability Plan, due out in July.

I can't imagine it getting underway before 2012.

The initial stages of Land 400 are to replace the M113 and ASLAV vehicle fleets. Later phases will replace Bushmaster and M1A1 and supporting armoured vehicles.

As such the M113AS3/4's which will only enter operational service in 2006/2007 will be operated for a number of years before any replacement is program is started...

Are there any current vehicles in operation or development that would be considered as likely replacements for the M113 and Aslav?

Or will they just be replaced by updated versions?
I'd imagine there are any number of suitable AFV/IFV vehicles that would prove suitable replacements for our M113 and ASLAV fleets.

The Puma and CV-90 IFV's spring to mind as suitable replacements for the M113 and Patria AMV, and LAVIII versions could be suitable to replace the ASLAV.

I strongly doubt that either the ASLAV or M113 will be significantly upgraded beyond their current levels of capability in Australian service, but rather new generation vehicles will be sought for Land 400.

The M1A1 and Bushmaster are to provide the vehicles for the initial MBT and Infantry mobility vehicle phases of Land 400.

Later phases are likely to replace these as well, but not until at least the 2025-2030 timeframe...
