Joint venture with Indon aircraft firm

KUALA LUMPUR: A Malaysian aircraft maintenance services company, Grouptech Sdn Bhd and Indonesia’s state-owned aircraft manufacturer, PT Dirgantara Indonesia, plan to jointly manufacture the CN235 utility aircraft.

The twin turbo-prop aircraft is aimed for markets in the region, Organisation of Islamic Conference (OIC) countries and other developing countries. The companies signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for the joint venture yesterday.

The signing was witnessed by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi and Indonesian President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono.

Grouptech, in a statement, said both companies hoped the venture would result in the provision of components repairs and maintenance services for other aircraft.

The CN235, currently manufactured in Bandung, Indonesia, is widely used for military tactical and patrol as well as cargo purposes.

Under the MoU, Grouptech would custom engineer and finance the production of the aircraft while PT Dirgantara would be responsible for preliminary designing and manufacturing.– Bernama
