IMI claims this system can be mounted on unarmored vehicles such as Humwees and offer protection from various threats such as RPG’s, Anti-Tank missiles. Unlike many other hard kill systems, Iron Fist utilizes blast effect of the interceptor to deflect/defeat the incoming projectile. The interceptor is made of materials which is fully consumed in the blast, there by avoiding risk of shrapnel. In addition as the system is based on ‘Close proximity’ and not on ‘Hit to Kill’ , said to be cheaper and simpler.
