The Iranian, Russian, Chinese and Syrian armies are due to stage joint amphibious exercises along the Syrian costs in coming weeks, informed sources revealed on Monday.

According to informed sources, 90,000 forces from the four countries will take part in the land and sea wargames due to be held in Syria.

Ground, air and sea forces as well as air defense and missile units of the four countries will take part in the exercises.

Sources also said that Egypt has acceded to grant passage to 12 Chinese warships to sail through the Suez Canal, adding that the military convoy is due to dock at the Syrian harbors in the next two weeks.

Russian atomic submarines and warships, aircraft carriers and mine-clearing destroyers as well as Iranian battleships and submarines will also arrive in Syria at around the same date.

Syria plans to test its coast-to-sea and air defense missiles in the wargames.

A sum of 400 warplanes and 1,000 tanks will also be used in the exercises.

A Syrian official, who asked to remain anonymous, had informed two weeks ago that the drills would be conducted in Syria soon.

Unofficial sources also said the four countries are now busy with taking swift preparatory measures for these biggest-ever wargames in the Middle-East.

Sham Life reported that the maneuvers will be stage in less than one month from now, that is early June.

I second Feanor. China's not going to deploy to the Med for naval exercises. If it wants large naval exercises, all it needs to do is deploy its existing fleet for that purpose. Interoperability with Russia? Maybe but doubtful that they'd send warships. Far easier to send in some officers and enlisted on an exchange program than draw NATO's eye. As for Iran and Syria, in the long run, I doubt China cares about them, let alone doing joint military exercises.

What!. Where did this come from? None of these countries sign any military agreement so how is that possible.

China and Russia are founding members of the SCO which is, in part, a military agreement.
Russia is Syria's key arms supplier and, for lack of a better term, protector.
China loves Iranian oil. Iran is has a border with both Pakistan and Afghanistan, both of strategic interest to China.

Very strange when we read of a Turkish RF-4 shot down recently, no?

I've seen nothing of this on the Chinese CCTV7 military news channel.

Yes, I'm inclined to agree with you. If this was a reality, the way things are timed would just be too convenient and a lot of questions would be asked, for sure!

Again, there's nothing on Chinese TV about this that I've seen.

Absolutely 100% agree...
I think Feanor is right, it looks like a fake newsreport.

however..

учения кавказ 2012 - Kavkaz 2012 will be happening in september, and are defined by the Russian Genshtab as a Strategic exercises.

Go with google translate, Georgia is quite upset about these of course.. here is a link an excerpt and a youtube link as well

Войны 2012: Ð*оÑÑÐ¸Ñ Ð³Ð¾Ñ‚Ð¾Ð²Ð¸Ñ‚ÑÑ Ðº нанеÑению СШРи Израилем ударов по Ирану? | Eurasianet: Ð*уÑÑÐºÐ°Ñ Ð¡Ð»ÑƒÐ¶Ð±Ð°

I know most folks here are tacticians and military strategists, not necessary politicians.. I havent seen anyone post the following before before, which is surprising...

Russia has inherited agreements between USSR and other nations after 1991, for example Kuril Islands, and with Iran the lack of the Caspian Sea Divison..

What it also inherited are the agreements of 26.2.1921 and 25.4.1940...

again use google translate, but it does a terrible job translating political talk/writings.. so allow me to quickly call out the best part of:

Both sides are bound not to allow to their territories armies and forces of third party (countries), the presence of which may create a danger to the borders, interests, and safety of each nation ( Sov./Persia ). Section 6, identified the right of the Soviet Government to deploy its forces into Persia, in the interests of self defence to carry out required measures should an attempt be made by a third party (country) to turn Persia into a base for military operations against the Soviet State and in case of dangers to the Soviet Borders - in situations where the Persian Nation/Government is "unable/lacks power to deter this (invasion/third party/country)"...

Best effort translation..
Cheers and love to you all,

Plas

Caucas-2012 is an annual event, and takes place in the Russian South Caucus, being primarily a land forces exercise. Considering it to be a move on Iran would be lunacy.

Actually China just held a joint large-scale ASW exercise with the Russian Pacific Fleet. In the Pacific of course.

I think Feanor is right, it looks like a fake newsreport.
Sham Life is a Syrian online tabloid mostly concerned with showing its readers pretty girls and outrageous news.

That "report" ranks about on scale with the one by a Venezuelan tabloid claiming the country was getting IRBMs and nuclear weapons from Iran...
