Hey all,
Just reading the latest issue of Air International today, and in the news section it claims that the Indonesian Air Force has just finished a study of the air force and has shortlisted three possible planes to buy: the K-8, the L-159 or the KO-1B.
I couldn't find anything on the Net about it though.
So, do we think this is genuine?

I believe it is.

A Japanese friend of mine specializing in SE Asian defense matters commented on the sorry state of the TNI-AF and that they are in the middle of an overhaul as you have doubtless heard in recent news with their spending spree on (3) Su-27SK, (2) Su-30MK2 ASh, (2) 636 Kilo SSK etc. whcih they can't even fund themselves.

It's only natural that next in line for replacement are the 60's and 70's era COIN and CAS OV-10s and F-5s-some which are not airworthy. My belief is that the K-8 will be selected due to cost issues and the 'no strings attached' attitude of the PRC in peddling weaponry.

BTW, does someone know the total strength of the TNI-AF once such purchases have been factored in to the TNI-AF ORBAT?
