Indian Air Force’s French-Built Mirage-2000 Crashes

A French-built Mirage-2000 warplane owned by the Indian Air Force crashed Sept. 23, shortly after taking off from the central city of Gwalior, an official said.

The pilot ejected safely before the plane crashed into the sparsely populated region of Singpur near Gwalior, an air force spokesman said. He said the aircraft lost a wheel during the routine sortie and the pilot located a remote site to crash to avoid ground casualties.

The Indian Air Force has been plagued by crashes of its aging fleet, although accidents of the Mirage have been rare.

Four British-designed Jaguars of the Indian Air Force crashed in quick succession earlier this year, killing three pilots including one whose parachute failed to open.

A few days back there was a Mirage-2000 crash. Is this another one? Two crashes within such a short span of time would certainly raise questions I would say! :roll

How do you do that with a retracted landing gear?

Some time ago this year, a French test pliot for mirages found a software glitch in one of the mirage2000 jets. He reported it to the dessault authorities & convayed tht the problem could be in the software design of Mirage2000s. Dessault had side lined his reports saying tht glitch was only on tht perticular jet. No other Jet has it. 4 month later two french jets crashed & Now this. Certainly raises questions.

That sounds odd, crashing the plane because it lost a wheel. Why didn't he just do a belly landing? I think there's something they're not saying...

come on sabre, how do you know this particular crash was due to a software glitch?
M not saying tht it crashed because of a software glitch. M just guessing & bluffing.

Anyways. One of the best French pilots who was one of the first to fly mirage2000 is still is, finds a glitch in software & reports. But Dessault ignores him when he said tht glitch might have carried onto other Mirage2000s. & 2 month later 2 mirage2k of France crash & now this.
All m saying is that there can be a connection.

How do u do a belly landing? It still will blow up. Unless u land it on a sandy desert.

Its quite odd. Dint the pilot feel the knocking of wheel when he was sprinting on run way.

guys it is only the fourth mirage 2000 to crash eversince the types' induction in 1985.the last crash took place a full 10 years back in 1994.i am sure no one here has enough details on the crash to be sure of the causes.all we can do is speculate...
