In search of vehicle name

Hi everyone. First time poster here. I have an interesting question and I hope all you military buffs will be able to help me. I am looking for the name of a specific vehicle. I think it is a transport vehicle. It is used in Afghanistan and I am sure other countries. It has four giant tires; very much for off road use. It is very boxy. It is probably from the 70's and 80's. There are a couple of them in the movie Spies Like Us. I believe it has multiple configurations, but the one I see the most of looks like a four door van. I saw one a about a year ago in Arizona and I want one. I know it isn't much information, but anything you guys can provide would be greatly appreciated. Thanks all!!

I don't really know. The more I think about this vehicle, it reminds me of an off road van. I don't think it is armored, but maybe. And I don't know for sure if it is an Afghan vehicle or now. I know everytime I have seen one in the movies, it is used by Middle Eastern military (the bad guys are driving them) normally in a desert setting.

Again, sorry there isn't much detail here.

I remember the movie, but I cannot place the vehicle. Do you mean a total of four wheels, or four wheels on each side?

I mean... from what you have said so far, you could be talking about a Land-Rover.

Yeah, I admit I don't offer a lot of detail. It had 4 total wheels. Not a Land Rover.

Its a Russian Gaz 4WD - and its absolute rubbish as a 4wd. It makes a Lada Niva look like a Range Rover.

Admin: Mona, re the series of one liners.

Please read the forum rules - I have asked you to do this before on your very first message.

In addition. One liners are not suitable responses - esp when they are lacking in any form of substance.

1st Warning

You guys are awesome. The fact that you are able to conceive any such vehicle in my rubish details is amazing.

Unfortunately, this isn't the thing I am thinking about. The one I am thinking about has like 33" or 35" (maybe bigger) tires. Much more sturdy and tough looking.

This is killing me...

Dude, you are awesome! That's it. Thanks.
In "Spies Like Us" - with Checy Chase and Dan Ackroyd it is a Gaz - not a Volvo. The two russians are in a UAZ-469 - also known as a "Gaz".

(This is if you are talking about the scene where they are driven across the desert by their fake CIA contacts (who are actually Russian GRU)
