Gripen Prototype Crash

Here's an awesom video of the first Gripen prototype's maiden flight crash. Its just jaw-dropping and whats more is that the pilot survived (thank God). I guess Viggen pilots need to pay a bit more attention to Gripen controls especially when its their first flight on the new AC.

Enjoy!

From the way the jet approach the airfield, it seem like the pilots are having trouble stablizing the aircraft. Just before it touched down, the aircraft lost it and did a spin-a-ronie across the runway and on to the field.

Nasty accident, the pilots were pretty lucky to walk out of this one. Good thing he didn't eject when the aircraft was upside down. :p

The most awkward part of the whole scenario was that even when he was ejecting, he thought the ejection lever was on the same side as it was in the Viggen but it wasn't so it took him a few seconds (which are pretty valuable in those moments) to find out that the lever was on the other side in the Gripen. I'd say these guys need more time on the simulator!! :roll

omg, scary.... total loss of control... It almost looked like after the first swing, he put engines to max thrust to try to take off again... and thats visible as the engine moves the aircraft even when its upside down.

what? how can you get confused? its 500% a Gripen my friend! maybe you clicked the wrong video link on the website. Try, try again until you see a Gripen jet trying to land and going crazy just when its about to land and crashing in to the ground.

No, he's right, the current movie shows a SU 35 crashing. That's because the original link is to a webpage which gets a new crash movie each week (he should have linked directly to the movie!). The gripen movie is no longer there

Like so http://home.planet.nl/~bogel002/acc-06.mpg

My bad. I didnt do that cuz these guys with the videos on their website are copyright obsessed and I didnt want to get DT in to trouble by linking directly to the video or uploading it on to here cuz they have said it somewhere on their website not to link directly to the videos. So I'm not sure if now, I should upload the Gripen crash video here on DT or not. Webs or Mods have anything to say on this? :roll

Myst, is there a copyright on the video? If not, it's just a clip they collected from somewhere else, so it's probably ok to consider public domain.

I dont think so. So should I upload it? Never uploaded a video? Any special procedure involved in that?

The upload shd work just as normal, although DT will need to take permission from the source website as their file is being uploaded as is. But then as highsea said, if that clip is under public domain, then no prob's in uploading it.

I was looking for a way to upload the Gripen Crash video but haven't succeeded in doing that. Somebody around here to help? Admin? Where's the option for a movie upload?

What would I post? The video clip is saved on my hard drive and I dont think you can put it in ur post unless it is 'linked' from somewhere. Well the website aint offering it anymore and I cant upload it to our gallery (from where to link it in my post) just like Webbie just said so its a 'no no' at the moment I guess.

Myst, we are thinking about upgrading the hosting services - that with a lot of bandwidth, diskspace and other resources for us to host movies. ;)

Makes me want to giggle (no offence). Did I mention before I dont use internet like people generally do? ;) I just use my wireless card to connect my notebook in to an available wireless network and have fun. My uncle has the ISP's internet account, not me. So much for 'personal web space' for me. :smokingc:
