Greek NH-90s with a ''weak'' floor cabin.

In last month's Air Force s Monthly, there was mention of Germany and Greece being unhappy with their NH-90s. A problem the Greeks are facing is that the cabin floor is not robust enough. It seems women with high heels were prohibited from entering an NH-90 because of previous damage done by high heels on the cabin floor. Very curious as to how something like this could have been overlooked by the aircraft's designers?

"Don't worry, its only a pre-production model. That problem wont be there in the production models."

You did notice the date of the article ? 2010. This was an issue brought up IIRC even well before then, it was an issue with the prototype's, there was also an issue with the ramps as well. All long ago fixed prior to full production models

Does this mean that our Aussie MRH's don't have this problem anymore?

I believe it was identified ages ago in these prototypes. All productions should have the more robust floor. Seems to be a minor issue anyway (floors being relatively easy to fix). Fix may slightly reduce load carrying capacity tho (~50kg or something). Personel flying prototypes will just have to leave those heals and stilletos at home..

Sure I did but the AFM article I mentioned was recent. I'm sure all the problems would have been sorted out by now. The Greeks encountered the problems on their 1st batch of NH-90s.

In the NH-90's defence it has to be said that it's rather unlikely that anyone would be wearing high heels in it during operations. ;) High heels will take their toll on any floors, my old chemistry teacher used to constantly wear stilettos, the floor in front of her blackboard looked like the surface of the Moon! :D

The Bell Iroquois has a quite robust floor; but for Vietnam operations, 9SQN RAAF fitted a 5 ply wooden overlay with cutouts for all floor fittings such as tie-down points. This acted as a load spreader and prevented damage due to lifting/dragging of heavier objects like mortar tubes/base plates, heavier ammunition, metal containers, defence stores, etcetera. The plywood overlay was screwed to the floor and easily removed for hosing out of body fluids and other corrosive contaminants. Maybe that solution is not so practical for the larger medium lift NH90/MRH90!

KiaKaha;252797]Didnt the RNZAF buy the NH90 and then find out about the floor problem and then have to get it changed before they took delivery of the first one.
One word answer NO those were all on pre production models and again who wears high heels in the Military.
