F/A-18D Jet Crash in Virginia Beach

This is reported to be the third crash of a Hornet this year. . Am looking forward to finding out the cause and if it's related in any way to the previous incidents. The right engine looks badly damaged compared to its twin though.

my heart to those involved, it's scary to think about, for me especially as back in '92 I lived mere blocks away from that airstrip. I remember A6's coming into approach so low you could almost count the panels barely 200 feet off the deck

I count my lucky stars nothing happened back then, and hope the issue is resolved soon. I forsee some TD's in the future for a great many VFAs

It's incredible that no one was killed in the crash and all those injured have been released from hospital. A "catastrophic mechanical malfunction" is said to be the cause which really isn't very illuminating.

The pilot managed to dump all the fuel before ejecting. So there's few combustibles and this led to no loss of life. Imagine what happen if the plane burst into flame.
