we may erect iron walls or establish walk through doors, but terrorists still break in....pollute minds of innocent people and make them party....it is all because of ignorance to the emotional intelligence in army....we need to understand the minds ....and apply emotional intelligence in army in order to get positive results....

Only if the thread starter could explain a bit more what's in fact he meant by the term "emotional intelligence" could have made life more easier.
1-Does it mean to counter the rival force with the help of mass media?
2-Does it implies that some good telepathy skills can help us in our jobs ?
3-Does it involves the help of female field agents and staff people adept in emotional blackmailing. :D :D ?

I believe the OP is talking about the psychology of the enemy in which case, this is definately considered by any competent army. Typically and more often than not most countries totally miss that mark, because they can only compare to their own social norms.

i believe...i have confused most of the people; what i mentioned was primarily in the realm of psychology playing role in military. EI has two parts, first knowing thyself and secondly, knowing your undercommands ...both requires knowledge of human nature, behavior, response to different situations, especially to fear and panic in case of war and anger in peace.....

So what you're saying for people to know themselves and their subordinates. So this "EI" you're speaking about is individual. That sort of thing is something that individuals have to learn and know. That's not something that the army can miraculously study and apply. That's why some troops can serve 5 combat tours fighting insurgents and keep living their lives and some go off and kill random civilians. The troop who knows himself and the one who doesn't. That's why some officers accelerate up the ranks and some never reach senior. The one who understands himself and the one who doesn't. The one who knows his command and the one who doesn't. "EI" is something that people either have or don't have, who learn within themselves or never learn. No army can teach that. That will always be the individual.

Rightly said. The only way is to have a practical look at everything.
Summarizing: every Colonel or Brigadier needs not be a psychologist. But if he's interested in the stuff and applies his knowledge to help himself in his job, will make his life easier.

Im no psychologist, I did do some stuff on this way back at uni. From wiki.

"Emotional intelligence (EI) is the ability to identify, assess, and control the emotions of oneself, of others, and of groups."

So using that it is something that is definitely considered by forces right back to the Roman empire. The Nazi's designed things because they deliberately put fear into the opposition, massive tanks, ships, uniforms, dive bombers with sirens, V1, V2 etc. The Hitler/Nazi's were so obsessed with it most likely cost the war.

Terrorists this is generally their main goal to control and encourage fear in a population.

Its applied more recently. But I would only ever discuss this from a historical perspective.
