Egypt IS up to something

Really? My instinct was that you're naive paranoid kid who dabbles in geo-politics. And I was right.

"Egypt has doubled the number of troops it has stationed on its border with the Gaza Strip.

Since Hamas blew open the Gaza-Egypt border wall last month to allow hundreds of thousands of needy Palestinians to surge across for supplies, Cairo has been sending reinforcements to the frontier with Israel's tacit assent, Jerusalem sources said Wednesday."
You may have not even read the article, or parts of it. Perhaps you should be reading news in a language you're more familiar with? I've bolded the relevant parts of the article you linked and I recommend consulting an English dictionary for improved comprehension.

You are most welcome :)

Border

Do you think it's aimed at the Israeli's or there wising up to the fact that the Egyptian government doesn't want Hamas getting a foot hold on soil they control? I think in ways they the Egyptians prefer the Palestinians problems to stay on the other side of the fence.

Exactly! ;)

Last time Hamas broke through Israel was going to hand over responsibility of Gaza to Egypt. Egypt is putting more troops on the border to make sure this type of chaos and confusion doesn't happen again.

ROCK45,
I do actually believe that this build-up is aimed at Israel and not due to the Hamas issue. Egypt has been seeking to increase the number of troops it has in the Sinai recently, and that can only be seen to be an attempt to forward-deploy assets, rather than an attempt to control a terrorist group.

No, IMO Egypt is not looking for another fight with Israel. Not by a long shot.

Read the history of the 2 major wars: Six-Day War and Yom Kippur, and it leaves no doubt that peace and mutual respect between Egypt and Israel was very hard won and neither sides wishes to mess around again.

OTOH...

Egypt is heck of a lot more concerned about Islamic radicalism than Israel, which has given them no trouble for close to 40 years.

When he Palestinian fighters escaped to Jordan, they caused trouble and tried to assasinate the King of Jordan.

When the Palestinian fighters went to Lebanon, they caused a major conflict between peaceful Lebanese christians and muslims. And resulted in many invasions by Israel. The beautiful country of Lebanon and fashionable city of Beirut turned into a nightmare of urban warfare.

So Egypt will WANT to stop the Palestinian fighters from getting into Egypt for it will infect and radicalise Egyptian society and end the 40 years of peace in Egypt. Al Qaeda and other parasites will enter Egypt and it'll become an ungovernable place.

And Israel might invade and everybody goes back to square one.

The Gaza Strip was once under Egyptian control, and they may invade it this time to prevent new Israeli takeover and/or periodic raids from both sides. If they pacify it, then Egypt may continue to have the best of both worlds: be on good terms with USA & Israel while remaining a champion of Arab interests.

Can you please stop the apocalyptic fantasizing. Please reconnect with reality forthwith.

Egypt is not going to invade Gaza. Egypt does not want to be lumbered with that cesspit. Egypt does not want to risk conflict with Israel. Full stop.

BTW, I've added something you forgot, but which the Egyptian government is well aware of -

If they pacify it, then Egypt may continue to have the best of both worlds: be on good terms with USA & Israel while remaining a champion of Arab interests, but if they fail, as is almost certain, and it remains turbulent, Egypt will have the worst of all worlds: reviled by Arabs, Israel, the USA, & Europe, isolated diplomatically, suffering huge economic losses as occupation costs mount, & foreign investments & tourism dry up, & in danger of being sucked into the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Palestinian fighters escaped to Jordan

Chino your post is interesting and made me think about the situation a little.

Palestinian fighters cause trouble in Jordan
Palestinian fighters cause trouble in Lebanon
I'm sure it's easier for Syria to keep them and the problems they cause pointing at somebody else.
The Egyptian don't seem to want them.
Somebody always seems to be leading them or pointing them at something or somebody else. Usually that takes place when somebody or some group doesn't want the focus on them or other local situations, oldest trick in the history book.

While outsiders like Hamas,Islamic radicalism, and Al Qaeda keep pointing them at the Israeli's. What a horrible situation I always wonder if all outside parties were forced out that maybe the Palestinian & Israeli's the two sides really involved might work out peace somehow, crazy me.

Yes, that every Islamic country in the Middle East is "Arab" is actually quite passe.

In the end, Egypt is Egyptian and Syria is Syrian etc... Just because the Palestinians are Islamic people doesn't mean they are welcomed.

Even during the heady days of Arab "brotherhood" when they grouped together to attack Israel, they also at the same time had their own self-interest at heart.

For example, I remember there was a dispute over the start time or "H-hour" for Yom Kippur War due to the direction of the sun. What was ideal for Egypt was detrimental for Syria cos they were attacking from opposite directions.

And many other examples where they were trying to screw each other while fighting Israel. The lack of true Arab trust and unity was one of the reasons they couldn't succeed. In the Six Day War, Egypt initially hid the scale of her defeat from other allies and even her own soldiers, so that the other Arabs would not panic and stop fighting.
