all aircraft in PAF inventory can do CAS... just none of them are DEDICATED...and in a small multi-role airforce like PAF, we don't need dedicated CAS aircraft. We can use choppers or normal fighters.

I think a dedicated CAS aircraft would be a waste for the PAF. PAF already possesses aircraft capable of performing this role. Another aircraft would duplicate this capability (though allow other aircraft to perform other roles) and would strain the logistical system through having yet another aircraft type on hand. CAS aircraft mainly provide air support and battlefield strike capabilities, they use mainly air to ground weapons such as cannon, unguided rockets, missiles (such as AGM-65 Maverick) and bombs both unguided and guided (laser, television or satellite) to strike ground targets in direct support of ground forces.

I've seen pics of PAF's F-7's on an open display armed with the weapons I mentioned above including, a cannon (23mm I think...) rockets, GBU-12 LGB's, Mk 82/84 gravity bombs and Maverick air to ground missiles. Everything you could ever want for CAS. I think this aircraft would be well suited for this role and is in service. Plus it can provide air defence when required. What more do you want?

A-10 (American), Su-25 (Russian) and Mig-23 (Russian) are still alright as CAS, but Q-5 (Chinese) are out of date and the aircraft is based on Mig-19, which 60's technology very old. :)

Pakistan should procure a small sized fleet of CAS aircraft. This will be effective in preventing breach of the border in areas of high terrain against slow moving Indian supplies and tanks. If F-16s can lead the way into India (which is higjly impossible considering the good strength of the IAF) aircrafts like the A-10 can heavily damage forward Indian bases.

Multi-role aircrafts in Pakistani inventonry do not have good performance while flying low. India can use the Sea Harriers for this role. Two aircrafts that stand out for such roles are the:

1. Panavia Tornado configured for CAS with FLIR
2. A-10 Thunderbolt

Pakistan should buy second hand Tornados from Eurpoean countries and build a small fleet for such aircraft. This aircraft was the best performing durin Desert Storm. It could fly fast in low-altitude, strike Iraqi SAM sites and fly back all the way to Daharan.

Mann forget CAS aircrafts!
I am just waiting on Rafales and Grispens :smokingc:
Pakistan will be unable to afford such aircraft in the current economic conditions (Even in the nect decade.) These aircrafts cost too much to aquire, train and support.

Grippens are on the table 60+ with another option of 40, but PAF would be unable to support both

l think you mean Gripens my friend. Grispens sound more like biscuits :D:
PAF does not have the budget to support CAS at this moment in time as this would eat into the budget of other more valuable equipment for the PAF.

F7,s with the ability to attack ground targets with precise munitions would be adequate. ( Hopefully HARM )
Standoff weapons and cruise missiles would be even better. It would limit the danger involved for the pilot and plane.
