Recently a "news report" appeared on pakdef.info website. A self declared authority on Pakistani defence issues. It sighted forecast international as a source of the report that PAF was buying 44 rafales from France. DefenceTalk.com went out to confirm if such reports were actually published at forecast international. Phone calls were made to france office and US offices of forecast international, emails were sent and we were told that forecast international NEVER published such reports. Please check this thread for more info:

http://www.defencetalk.com/forums/viewtopic.php?t=2976&start=10

Later, we received this email from editor of the forecast international:

"Fieldmarshal" posted an item September 8 in the Military Aviation Forum of Defencetalk.com that prompted the following response:

Forecast International is aware of various articles appearing in Internet sites regarding the possible transfer of Rafale fighter aircraft to Pakistan. These articles erroneously cite Forecast International as the source of this information. Forecast International categorically denies being the source of any information contained within these articles.

Pakdef people need to stop quoting dependable and prestigious sources to make points with the pakistani defence community. It does not serve them right nor does it server Defence communities in general. We need to report the truth and confirm that its actually published before reporting it.

DefenceTalk.com will go out of its way to confirm news reports which it feels are baseless and untrue. Report truth, report confirmed reports so defence and military communities have something solid to talk about and discuss.

Making up false stories and false reports and claiming its from a respected national source is shameful and defencetalk.com demands apology from Pakdef for releasing such erroneous and inaccurate report which has hurt defence communities in general.

Thank You,

Admin

Pakobserver.net also picked up this story from Pakdef.info and I just called their Pakistan office (spoke with Najam) and they said they don't have confirmation of such news and that they apparently picked it up from pakdef.

Aroosa Alam needs a lesson in journalism and defence issues before she can write for them.

Guys,
Pakdef members won't learn any lesson at all. The controlling members views about most issues are very selective and tunnel visioned. It is their way or the highway. They don't believe in dissent, they don't care about a healthy discussion of the issue---the bottom line is that is how they want to run their program.

An update on this as far as aftermath of this whole episode is concerned, we've had few email exchanges with the Forecast International, read on:

Ray,

Good enough. As defense / military community we will keep looking to make sure that they do keep prestigious news sources out when making such fake claims.

Thank you,

H

H,

Third-rate gossip chat rooms are always going to publish phony articles and it's unlikely anyone can stop them. As long as they keep Forecast International's name out of it, that's their business. As for the fools that listen to them, well, that's their business, too. As P.T. Barnum said, there's a sucker born every minute.

Dear Ray,

Pakdef.info < the website first published this article and from there it was noted and defencetalk.com contacted FI. Is it possible that Forecast International would take some type of action against Pakdef.info for this fake and made up story which was attributed to Forecast international?

Thanks,

H

That is what you are considered when you release fake and made up stories to win points with Pakistani defence community. It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure out what people will think of you when your lie is exposed.

Anyhow, long emails were exchanged between arrogant and pigheaded admin of Pakdef and myself, here is a summary:

-pakdef posted a news about PAF buying Rafales from France sighting forecast international as a source of that news.

-DT goes out to confirm the news, called up Forecast international.

-Forecast international denies the news was ever published.

-pakdef is notified

-pakdef members and admins attack and bully the person who was notifying that forecast international never published such news!

-pakdef to divert attention turns on the burners to spin the issue into “DT stole our pics….†And ignoring the real issue outlined above. To take attention from the real issue, pakdef admins brag about tour they use to get in Pakistani military facilities, as if that has anything to do with the issue at hand.

-the story spreads into other defence forums.

-at that point pakdef steps up the effort to spin the issue further into “DT stole our bandwith and our pics…â€

-DT takes appropriate action and deletes the pictures identified and is open to any request if any pictures are still there, notify us and we’ll take proper action – which is to delete the identified pics.

-pakdef not finding a proper way out of the situation and to hide the facts outlined above insults and attacks DT’s Admins as well as those who take DT’s side.

-DT has taken ALL steps necessary to ensure that there are no copy right materials posted on its website from Pakdef.info. If there are, DT requests that DT admin should be notified for proper action and not except DT admin to know through Godly powers that the pictures are somehow from PakDef.

-Bottom line is that Pakdef members as well as the Admin(top to bottom) created a lie, made up a story attributed to a national source to win points with Pakistani defence community, which has a bad habit of believing everything with their eyes closed. Now, that DT exposed pakdefs asinine way to grab attention, they are out there mud slinging DT as well as its Admins. What a shame that a site that held a high place once would go down face first.

You bet PakDef fell face first losing a good deal of its credibility. The most wierd part is that PakDef admin and members think that DT is a Pakistani Defense forum trying to steal their spot-light! Somebody better give 'em all a reality check and let 'em know that this is an "International Defense Forum". :smokingc:
