Defence force "SYSTEMS"

After reading a number of Posts and realising that a "Complete system" is used by Military forces to Defend/attack, a specific area,i thought i would start a new post to help me and others understand what a system brings to a Defence force.

When i first joined this forum i was under the impression that Platforms rule the battle field, but after being educated by Forum members i would like to start a debate on how systems work.I.E.....

*How do these systems work
*what systems operate in Land/Sea/Air environment
*what are the limitations of these systems
*dose the system work under all conditions(ie ,snow, wind, rain ect)

I will try and start by trying to show Australia system.(in a very basic format):D

JORN would have to be part of our Early warning system.Jorn can detect maritime/land/air units out to 3500 plus KM,but cannot give get a complete fix on a target.(ie altitude, distance, speed)

Boeing 737 Awacs will be used to Track and give firing solutions to networked Aircraft and Naval and ground based assets.

AEGIS systems on AWD will be used to engage naval and air targets all networked to AWACS and JORN for a complete picture.

For me a system would have to have radio/internet/ie..Information being fed to a control center with people analysing all the information that is coming in and then acting upon this information.

My understanding on this subject is very little, but i am trying to get a picture of what Systems are used in what environment and by what countries.

Could you be more specific in your question?

This is so wide ranging that I do not think anyone knows where to start.

Well im probably not the best person to have started this thread,as my understanding of it is very limited.

I was trying to make a post so people(me included) could have an understanding of the systems approach to warfare.

The Battlefield Management system is used by the ADF.Its like a map that can be updated and give all users of the system real time information. This is one system that is transforming the ADF into a networked force.

Im probably a LOT over my head here as i have very little to no understanding of this type of warfare :nutkick

The link to the video helped. it looks like what you are talking about is the Australian version of what the Americas used to call the ‘Land Warrior’ system. The video was posted over a year ago, and is hopefully a year or 2 older than that, because the equipment is too heavy and too bulky.

None of the complete systems of this type seem to be ready for introduction. Major problems include weight, battery life, available band width, and network configuration. Minor problems are, well … to many to summarize. Bits and pieces are being gradually introduced, but it will be a long time before the system shown will be more than a gleam in an publicists eye.

The Army is important, yes....but remember if we did not have the Air Force checking out the terrain ahead of time the Army might be in for some surprise attacks.
The Navy we need also to guard the ports
