Could large UK cuts be a good thing?

Before you all stand up and start chucking rotten food at me please give me a second to explain.

What if we trim down now and when we finally get some money we can replace everything with new high tech stuff and not be tempted to just upgrade stuff we already have that has seen better days?

If this is really not a viable idea then feel free to vent but would we lose too much capability to rearm if we did do a slash and burn type cut?

I think it sounds good in theory, but one only has to look at New Zealand and the ACF no TAC air have to wait for Australian hornets to come over to do training in CAS ETC, or in the case of the RAN with the light carriers provide flexibility to the RAN but are gone won’t be coming back not matter how i might wish they would.

Once it is gone it’s too hard to bring back not only in money terms but in experienced and corporate knowledge is lost and the governments see that money saved and don’t want to spend it again.
