this chinese patrol ship is of thesame size and displacement as the latest indian coast guard ship which is under construction at the garden reach shipbuilders and engineers limited(3500 tons displacement).known as the extra large patrol vessel it is the enlarged version of the samar class of vessels and has been designed to function the same functions the chinese vessels.the samar class of vessels have a displacement of 2000 tons and a range of 7000nm(12600kms@15kts).this vessel is equipped with one otomelara 76mm gun having a firing range of 16kms and a pair of 7.62mm machine guns.the elpv's of which 5 are to be built are expected to be larger, more well armed, faster and with a longer range than the samar class.by the way do you have any idea of the weapons fit ,range and capability of the chinese ship.(and how many of them are to be built.besides the elpv's india is also building rollsroyce designed 3600-3700ton pollution contrl and maritime patrol ship.(6 nos)

I find that ironic, becuase the PLAN seems more geared up towards violating other nations' sovereignty these days
What nation would that be? Taiwan? it is agreed international that there is only one china. Or could PLAN be gearing up for the 12 CVBGs of the USN?

entering other nations waters doesn't really mean violating it's waters. it could be humanitarian mission or joint exercise. i can't say much about disputed territories. there's a lot of question mark regarding that kind areas.

that dependa upon how you use them india may use their patrol vessels as back up ships and for pollution control same as china plans to use them .whereas malaysian navy uses its meko100 class of corvettes(2500tons displacement) as missile firing patrol corvettes india had also tested balliatic missiles on the sukanya class of patrol vessels(1850 tons).so you can fit them with weapons it all depends upon how you intend to use them.

I wonder what would be its armament.
I think it would mostly have some guns and a Helicopter thats all.
Generally offshore Patrol Ships are of displacment 1200-1800 tons but not more than 2000 tons.
But I don't know why this Ship is so big.

i beleive such vessels have greater endurance and can be easily modernised with weapons and sensors for higher roles.by the way south koreans have a 3600 ton mine counter measures vessel which they use for laying of mines, clearing of mines, long range patrol, surveillance, search and rescue.i beleive indian and chinese vessels(being discussed here)have scope for long range patrol, surveillance, pollution control, anti piracy, disaster management, fisheries control and harbour defence.with advance weapons and sensor refits can also be used for asw/asuw roles(in the same manner that a frigate is used).

MEKO 100 are only 1650 full load displacement. the Malaysian navy, officially will not use this ships. it will be use by the newly founded Malaysia maritime surveillance and security agency, much like a coast guard, this agency answered to the ministry of internal security and not to the ministry of defence, but it will be manned by a navy personals. malaysian government did not finalized the type of missiles to be install aboard the ships, so there will be no "missile firing" for a while. just an ordinary gun corvettes.
