I am trying to find out if i can join the Australian Defence forces after serving with the French foreign legion. i have applied for a few different positions in the Australian Defence Forces and have passed all my tests but my crimtrack has stopped me at the last stage. i have launched 2 appeals but have not been successful because it is thought that i have not had enough time to prove myself after my past mistakes and it looks to be 3 years until i am able to join the service. i have thought that it would be a good move to join the French foreign legion for a 5 year term to learn a new language and military skills so that when i come home my application looks more appealing. if i join the French foreign legion will i have any problems joining the Australian Defence forces?

From a security and suitability point of view it depends on what you have done in the past for your check to not be suitable and what types of positions you are going for ?
To be honest in my opinion joining the Foreign Legion may have a negative effect on you joining the ADF, once again depending on what type of position you are going for. They look for certain traits and characteristics in each individual for the relevant position, and also long term behavioural patterns and charater for security clearances.
Personally I would just bite the bullet get a good steady job, work hard to prove yourself and stay in touch with the recruitment centre to let them know you are serious and still wanting to join, showing a vested interest over a period of time will go a long way. But don't become a serial pest
