Police this morning have closed off a large section of the famous English, Chesil Beach in Dorset, after the discovery of a large WW2 Balloon Bomb.

Army disposal experts are currently rushing to the site in order to blow it up.

A similar device is believed responsible for creating a huge crater on nearby secondary main road; the B3226, five years ago. Police and experts are still looking into it.

I used to live in France, it was quite common for people to discover old ammo and call
the police which in-turn called the military to disarm/blow up stuff... I don't remember how many tons of ammo they found every year but it was quite a lot.
I remember in the 90s they found tons of old WWII US ammo on beaches around Normandy, just incredible.

Have to remember Brits,French and Germans fired millions of rounds in WWI, even if you had just 1% dud rate, you have tons of ammo laying around and the dud rate in WWI was more than 1%!

How often does it happen in the UK that World War II bomb duds are found?
If it's news - apparently not too often.

In Germany it's somewhere around 1,000 finds per year containing more than 100 lbs HE. Stuff with less - artillery shells, AT rockets etc pp - is at least ten times that, and doesn't count.

Oh dear - it was an April Fool!

The key words were Ballon and blowing up and I hope most people sussed it. Just in case some did not, my second post was just a reworking of a very very old joke.
